On the Hunt for the Jakarta Spammer

As an update to my previous posts, I am still hunting the "Jakarta Spammer", as I have come to call a particularly persistent spammer at Wikidot.com - since at least some of the IP addresses he has used can be traced back to Jakarta, Indonesia, and he tends to spam for Indonesian websites in the local language (which conveniently makes it easy to find his spam).

Unfortunately, it seems that IP-based blocks will be difficult to implement for this guy, as he changes his IP address constantly (judging by those he uses for anonymous edits) - he has used the following in the last three weeks alone:
  • 72.18.197.94
  • 76.73.108.16
  • 76.73.108.98
  • 76.73.108.99
  • 76.73.108.100
  • 76.73.108.101
  • 76.73.108.102
  • 76.73.108.103
  • 87.117.216.162
  • 87.117.216.163
  • 87.117.216.164
  • 87.117.216.170
  • 87.117.216.184
  • 87.117.216.187
  • 87.117.216.190
  • 95.143.32.86
  • 95.143.32.96
  • 95.211.27.69
  • 109.169.49.214
  • 112.78.163.78
  • 112.78.163.123
  • 114.79.13.11
  • 114.79.13.202
  • 118.99.64.53
  • 118.99.65.48
  • 118.99.67.211
  • 173.234.140.18
  • 173.234.168.19
  • 173.234.168.22
  • 173.234.168.24
  • 173.234.168.25
  • 173.234.168.27
  • 173.234.168.28
  • 173.234.168.29
  • 173.234.168.30
  • 173.234.234.98
  • 216.6.232.234
  • 216.6.232.235
  • 216.6.232.236
  • 216.6.232.237
  • 216.6.232.238
Thus, our old game continues - I remove his spam links, and he pops up the next day with new user names and IPs and reverts my edits right back. However, now that we are getting better at deleting his accounts soon after they appear he seems to have slowed his edits down, presumably because he wants to test if we are still at high alert.. The number of anonymous edits has also gone up, presumably because it is more difficult to trace those.

Furthermore, I seem to have gotten under his skin - take a look at my user profile:

And now take a look at one of his new user profiles (before it got deleted):

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I suppose...
